Q: Has FPL evaluated these treated wood products?

FPL has only limited data on the recently developed preservatives. Some are included in studies that will be published when the 5-year field plot data are available. Durability data on new preservatives are included in submittals to AWPA as part of the process of having preservatives standardized by AWPA. Such evaluations of new preservatives are conducted by the individual companies themselves or are contracted out to other parties.

The overall FPL research program is discussed at the question, What research is FPL doing on wood preservatives?. The major FPL publication of FPL data on effectiveness of wood preservatives is Comparison of Wood Preservatives in Stake Tests--2000 Progress Report, Research Note FPL-RN-002. The last published edition is dated 2000. A new edition is planned for 2003. This publication includes data on the effectiveness of treatments against decay fungi and termites, including Formosan termites.
