2007 Research Highlights

Imaging to determine stress concentration in paper under tensile loads

Key Contact: John Considine, jconsidine@fs.fed.us

The project uses optical imaging of paper under tensile loads to determine strain distribution in the paper prior to tensile failure. This research has used digital image correlation of one side images to track x-y strain in paper, and two side imaging to determine z-direction strain. Two conference proceedings published in FY-07 address z-direction strain, and use of an inverse method (strain) to determine stress concentration in paper test specimens.
