2007 Research Highlights

Continued evaluation of 20 field studies on wood/finish interaction

Key Contact: Sam Williams, rswilliams@fs.fed.us

Studies of wood finish at the Forest Products Laboratory (FPL) are quite different than those in industry. Industry sponsored research normally focuses on short-term studies to show gloss and color retention. FPL sponsored resear ch focuses on the interaction of various wood species, surface characteristics, wood extractive, and pretreatments on the wood-paint interphase and the mechanisms of catastrophic paint failure.
